Fabien Lehagre is the President and founder of the Association of Accidental Americans, the first organization dedicated to representing individuals identified as accidental Americans. He is also the founder of Tax Fairness for Americans Abroad.
Over the past 7 years, Lehagre has spearheaded numerous initiatives to combat the burdens the United States imposes on accidental Americans and, by extension, Americans living abroad, through its extraterritorial laws.
He has initiated various legal actions and lobbying efforts in Europe and the United States. These efforts led to the temporary halting of data transfers of Belgian accidental Americans to the IRS (a decision that was overturned on appeal but not judged on its merits), and influenced the U.S. State Department to reduce the fee for renouncing American citizenship from $2,350 to $450. Additionally, he has played a pivotal role in persuading the European Union to address the issue of accidental Americans with the United States.
Lehagre’s lobbying work and the legal initiatives of the AAA have generated media coverage worldwide including an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal titled "The Land of the Free Won't Leave Me Alone."
Based in France, Lehagre is a father of three children.
