Continual problems finding ways to invest and save
Dear Congress,
I was born in 1985 and raised in northern Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. After graduating from university in Wisconsin and moving around the Southwest, I met my Austrian wife and moved to Germany in 2018 for love.
When I started my next chapter abroad I was shocked by the tax, banking and investing issues I faced. It makes no sense that a full time employee is required to file tax returns in a country they don’t reside in.
The US is the only country in the world that taxes its non-resident citizens’ earnings abroad.
Moreover, I continually face problems finding ways to invest and to save for retirement. The local banks and financial services companies want nothing to do with an American due to the regulatory mountain they would have to climb to work with me.
My future is directly impacted by the U.S.’ unfair double taxation laws. They need to come to an end so I can retire comfortably and not in poverty.
Please end the double taxation and related tax and financial discrimination against Americans abroad!
Sincerely,
Mitchell Davis
